Abstract
This paper adresses the implementation of customer access protection unit (CAPU) as an automatic switching device designed as a value-added package offered to customer to perform security and self restoration at their own place. The restoration scheme proposed in this paper was presented and the simulation results had justify the system feasibility. An auto-restoration feature is controlled by Access control System (ACS); another smart unit contributing to intelligent- Fiber to the Home proposed by the research group. ACS will basically activate the switch and detect the fiber cut in the distribution lines. The bit error rate (BER) performances are measured by a 1.25 Gp/s non- return-to zero (NRZ) pseudo random binary sequence (PBRS) with a pattern length of 231-1 for the downstream traffic between OLT and 8 ONUs. Our results were presented as comparisons of eye diagram's characteristics based on the five conditions suggested by the restoration mechanism proposed.
