The Existential Dimension to Working Through

Abstract

What does the concept of 'working through' really mean? By way of shedding light on this question, Michael Guy Thompson draws on representative comments from the analytic literature depicting how 'working through' is typically understood, followed by an examination of how Freud characterised the meaning of this term himself. He reveals how Freud's existential orientations provide a psychoanalytic framework for defining and redefining this concept.
