Abstract

For applications such as electric traction where the need for speed synchronization is not stringent, single-inverter multi-machine induction motor drives offer significant reduction in cost, size and weight. The machines are nominally identical and share the load equally, however during operation, a fault may develop in one or more machines. This paper discusses the effects of stator fault in one machine on the performance of a two-machine drive. Both - Field Oriented Controlled (FOC) as well as Direct Torque Controlled (DTC) - drives are studied in detail.
