Abstract

Our team has created a Spindt field emitter array X-ray tube that can operate efficiently over a wide range of anode biases, from 30-160kV. This tube uses a cold cathode that is fabricated on a silicon wafer with a 200 nm design rule, allowing for operation at a gate voltage below 35V. The cold cathode demonstrates current-voltage characteristics that are largely unaffected by anode biases. The tube's multi-energy X-ray chromatic scanning capability offers an added benefit of material identification, in addition to its native ability to perform stationary CT scans.
