Abstract

An established finite element model of artificial hip was used to study impingement during subluxation. This investigation seeks to assess parametrically the independent effects of the cup rim radius on edge-loading by means of dislocation torque and contact stress. This article recommends 2 mm as the preferred lip radius for the acetabular liner rim with favorable mechanical performance during impingement/subluxation.
