Abstract

As an regional that has the largest tin-producing natural resource wealth in the world after China, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia faces a unique challenges in developing the right tin mining industry policies to address the underdeveloped regions. This paper to explore some spatial patterns of mining industry development in 7 districts/cities in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province over the period of 2004-2018. Our analysis pioneered the study of the development of the tin mining industry and regional development that combines 'geography'. Discriminant analysis proves to be useful as a basis for integrating development policies formulations in the mining industry. The findings show that the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and the Central Government require development policies that include regional variations in terms of economic growth, poverty, unemployment, economic exploitation, human resource development, and income inequality. More importantly, Indonesia can improve regional performance by taking into account the spatial dimensions of economic growth, poverty, unemployment, economic exploitation, human resource development and income inequality. Our findings offer some insight into the spatial aspects of mining industry development in Bangka Belitung Islands Province and regional development.
