Abstract

The design and construction aspects related to a steel fiber reinforced concrete bonded overlay repair project on the existing Houston Beltway 8 Freeway are discussed in this paper. First, several previous steel fiber reinforced paving projects are reviewed briefly, and then a comprehensive review is provided of an experimental program involving steel fibers completed in 1983, with special attention paid to reflective cracking reduction. Also discussed are design considerations such as mix design, modulus of rapture, residual strength factors, overlay bond performance, and evaporation rate.
