Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive study for the impact of the set voltage of the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) of the synchronous generator on the performance of a grid-integrated synchronous-Photovoltaic (PV) generators. The study is carried out at various high PV penetration levels and wide range of set values of the controller. The response of the power system after sudden successive changes on the controller reference values is observed. The variations of the system operating points have also been outlined. In all cases, the numerical simulations are conducted using the complete nonlinear dynamical model in d-q stationary reference axes. It is concluded that the power system can withstand the variations of the AVR set voltages resulting in a wide range of system running conditions. It is worth mentioning that changing the reference voltage of the AVR does not only affect the operating conditions of the synchronous generator but also largely impact the running conditions of the PV generator.
