Study on the Emotional and Rational Life in Ding Xilin’s Comedy

Abstract

The discussion on Ding Xilin's dramas mostly focuses on the analysis of his comic language and artistic techniques, while the display of the life force of the characters in Ding Xilin's dramas is seldom discussed. Throughout the dramas created by Ding Xilin during his lifetime, praise for the rhythm of human life runs through from beginning to end. This kind of rhythm of life on the one hand comes from the call for the manifestation of the life of the self-subject within the mind of the character, and on the other is rooted in the rational spirit of the traditional moral view of having to restrain the inner self. This article takes Ding Xilin's dramatic works as the research object, and through the analysis of the characters' language and plot setting in the drama, expounds Ding Xilin's singing of the rhythm of life of the characters flowing in a simple and logical language.
