The two types (intra-visitor location register (VLR) and inter-VLR) of LR, and fixed detach traffic are considered. Simulation is carried out to calculate the LR processing capacity. For the performance parameters, we adopt the utilization rate, waiting time and queue length in each processor. Additionally, we compute the delay times for LR processing and compare them with grade of service criteria. From the results, it is estimated that the LR processing capacity is 153,000 LRs/hour where the utilization rate of the location management processor is 40%, ratio for the type of LR is intra-VLR: inter-VLR=60:40% and average message processing time of the processor is 0.2 msec.","PeriodicalId":414137,"journal":{"name":"IEEE GLOBECOM 1998 (Cat.
