An Introduction of the Early Newspaper Features of Women Times and the Cognition of Women’s Education

Abstract

During the late Qing Dynasty and the early period of Republic of China, social ideological trend was very active, and many commercial newspapers focusing on women appeared one after another. From the earliest issue of Women’s journal in 1898 to the founding of the Republic of China in 1912, there were more than 30 kinds of newspapers and magazines about women issued and published during this period. As a commercial newspaper about women with a large circulation in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, Women Times appeared in this period. This paper will introduce the historical background of Women Times, the features of early newspapers, the cognition and shortcomings of women’s education, and so on.
