Abstract

Nowadays, traffic networks become more complex even if transportation infrastructures are more developed. Consequently, economical and environmental problems become larger. Therefore, to reduce congestion and improve safety of cars on the roads, many analyses and studies have been conducted to manage existing infrastructures. This study compares a structured network-wide traffic controller based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) theory, which represent a Simplified model (S model) and state-feedback (FT) control. Then, a new control algorithm based on model predictive control is presented. This control algorithm is efficient and accurate because it reduces computation time and uses systematic methodology to control multi-modal traffic lights.
