Abstract
As global demand for electric-powered vehicles rises, the development of high-performance traction motors receives a strong impulse, this fact has determined local market-leading company UMEB from Bucharest, Romania to develop a new line of traction motors, optimized for electric buses. This motor must deliver high torque for a wide speed range, low weight, and high power density. The article describes the development of such a motor, starting from the selection of the solution, the primary dimensioning, the digital simulation, the design, the execution, and the commissioning tests of the prototype. The work was performed by a team of specialists, to replace the asynchronous traction motor with the permanent magnet synchronous motor solution.
