Abstract

In this paper, a power converter based AC subsea power cable emulator for Power Hardware-in-the-Loop applications is introduced. Lumped parameters cable models are compared to Bergeron travelling waves model response and a three-phase coupled T model is derived in discrete time domain. A three-phase back-to-back PWM voltage source converter is modeled and its control system designed in order to emulate the developed cable model. Finally, simulation results verify the modeling and control schemes in transient and steady state situations.
