Abstract

The emergence of ad-hoc wireless vehicular networks (VANETs) in our modern life brings several advantages, these include but not limited to: the increase in road safety, avoidance of circulation congestion, access to an internet connection, online payment and remote maintenance applications. Since the appearance of the VANTEs, many standards and routing mechanisms have been proposed to meet the specificities of this new network class. One of the categories of the most efficient routing protocols in this network is the geographic routing protocol that includes a particular sub-class that bases on the intersections to calculate the different candidate junctions incorporating in the optimal path constitution. The analysis that we made on the protocols of this class has shown that the uniquely dependence on the traffic statistics collection at the level of first-hop intersections may result in an error in calculating the optimal itinerary. This paper proposes a new geographic routing solution based on the intersection called A Geographic Routing Based on Road Traffic and Multi-hop Intersections in VANETs (GRBRT-MI) that is more adapted to VANETs. This new approach will discuss the selection of the next junction when taking into account the junction connectivity of multi-hop however, for the implementation of this solution; we opted to the operation only of traffic connectivity in the intersections of one and two-hop. Simulation comparison of GRBRT-MI against some strong routing protocols has shown the superiority of our approach in terms of: packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay.
