Abstract
The biggest fear during fracking process is the risk of contamination of water resources, this can happen because of improper, insufficient or low quality cement casing which leads to methane leaks and follows path to aquifer. This soil-structure interaction simulation predicts the potential impact of structural health monitoring on the cement casing structures found in oil well. Nonlinear plane stain analysis using staged techniques is presented. Results including the deflection of cement casing tip, strain, moment and direct stress in the cement casing are affected by live and dead weight around well vicinity. The prediction of internal stresses and strains in cement casing is presented under static conditions. However, the effects of aging, deterioration and extreme seismic loading necessitate the need for advanced structural health monitoring and damage detection sensors.
