Abstract

Turbo multi user detection (MUD) enables optimal data detection and decoding in communication channels that involve both error control coding and multiple access signaling by iterating between multi user detection and channel decoding. Increasing the number of active users in the multiple-access channel increases the multiuser interference. To minimize the degradation, the number of iterations is usually increased at the cost of additional latency. In this paper, it is shown that message authentication with or without encryption when implemented with Turbo MUD, decreases the number of iterations required for optimal detection and also improves the performance.
