Abstract

Among the various types of cancer, lung cancer forms a significant portion of cancer deaths. The deaths due to cancer can be reduced and minimized in a given population if it is detected early. Computer Aided Detection (CAD) is a process by which early detection of lung cancer nodules has been made possible. This paper presents the results obtained by the proposed CAD algorithm (Active Contour Model without edges) for the detection of lung nodules. The CT images obtained are preprocessed, segmented and the lung nodules are detected. An accuracy of 91.5% has been achieved.
