Abstract
In this study, the effect of the surface micro grooves on friction pairs was investigated. The material of the Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was used and two sets of different friction pairs, PDMS-STEEL and PDMS-PDMS, were prepared. The experimental results indicated that the width of the surface groove on the surface of the friction pairs improved the tribological properties. The friction coefficient decreased with the increase in the groove width. The depth effect of the micro groove was related to the pairing conditions. For the PDMS-STEEL friction pairs, the increasing depth of the micro groove deteriorated the friction situation. For the PDMS-PDMS friction pairs, the influence on friction behavior was not obvious. Meanwhile, when the ratio of the width to depth of the micro groove was 0.05, for the PDMS-STEEL friction pairs, the tribological properties were the best. While for the PDMS-PDMS one, the tribological behaviors were improved similarly under both kinds of the ratio values of 0.3 and 0.05.
