Abstract

Architects in their continuing educational activities after graduation learn (or fail to learn) in three major kinds of ways: by formal education put on by academic establishments: by informal education they organise themselves; and in incidental, non-deliberate ways as a result of practical experience. Their learning is also affected by activities and management strategies employed by the organisation or practice for which they work. This article expands on the last of these considerations which has been little mapped, by illustrations from interviews with 71 architects and technicians about their mid-career education experiences.
