Abstract

A configuration of printed monopole patch antenna placed symmetrically between two pass band Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSSs) for bidirectional gain enhancement in X-band is presented in this letter. Gain enhancement is achieved at different frequencies by varying distance between the two structures. Simulation results of the structure show 11.8dB bidirectional gain enhancement at 12.2GHz, whereas experimentally 9.5dB at 11.9GHz is achieved. Finally, using the basics of 2-D leaky wave antenna, the phenomenon of gain enhancement is explained.
