Tributo ao professor José Dias Sobrinho

Abstract

This article, in form of Opinion, deals with a short summary of the career and the research work of Professor José Dia Sobrinho, who passed away on September 10 th , 2022. It briefly addresses his professional career mainly at Unicamp, where he worked as a professor at the Faculty of Education, holding relevant positions simultaneously as a researcher and in the high-level administrative positions. His research area was focused on higher education evaluation processes. Among the impacts of his contribution are the implementation of higher education evaluation systems in Brazil as well as in some Latin-American and Caribbean countries. The outstanding features of his work are the democratic principles and university autonomy, the Education as a natural right, the responsibility of the universities with equity, inclusion and social commitment and the ethical and political roles of the Education.
