Abstract
This paper presents a synchronous reluctance machine as alternative to the permanent magnet machine. Possible designs are considered for the motor rotor, while the stator is of conventional design of the induction machine with 48 slots and distributed double-layer winding. In the work, analysis is given for the parameters of an optimal design of synchronous reluctance motor. The modelling of electromagnetic field is performed in the JMAG software based on the finite element method. The basic geometric dimensions are taken from the permanent magnet machine used in Toyota Prius.
