Abstract

Modeling the wireless channel involves using a known probing signal to estimate channel parameters such as multipath attenuation and arrival times. A general form for the probing signal is introduced for channel sounding. Four specific techniques are described and their accuracy in measuring the channel impulse response is compared. The time domain techniques are the sliding correlator method and the direct pulse technique. The frequency domain techniques described are the single tone method and the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar technique.
