Abstract
Purpose: The aim of our study is to determine the status of violence of health workers and reasons of violence from the perspective of health workers.
Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 244 healthcare workers who agreed to participate in the study. A data collection form containing personal information and opinions on violence, created by the researchers by scanning the literature, was used. The statistical analyses were conducted with the SPSS 21 package program.
Results: The rate of their exposure to violence in their lifetime was 77.9%. It was determined that 91.5% of the health workers faced with oral and 6.4% with psychological. According to the results obtained in the study, the reasons for violence against the healthcare workers from the point of view of the healthcare professionals were, respectively, the impatience of the patient/patient relatives, the crowding of the hospitals, the patient/patient relatives being closed to communication. It was observed that there was a significant relationship between age, marital status and duration of employment and exposure to violence.
Conclusion: It was found that most of the healthcare professionals participating in the study faced violence. Thus, it is important to take necessary measures to prevent workplace violence. For permanent solutions of violence, we also need to investigate the patients’ point of views.
