Abstract
What Edward Maisel had called, in the '60's, "the T'ai Chi boom in America" found guidance in literature primarily in two key books: Sophia Delza's Body and Mind in Harmony, which appeared in .1961, and T'ai Chi for Health, in 1963, by Maisel. Both practitioners presented detailed descriptions of the sequences as well as examinations of the quality of t'ai chi movement — Maisel of the earlier, classical pattern and Delza of the later Wu version. Both scholars dwelled upon the history and philosophical connections of t'ai chi (especially Delza); and also discussed its significance for contemporary life and well-being (especially Maisel).
