Abstract

Voltage sourced converter based high-voltage direct current (VSC- HVDC) transmission has been applied efficiently in renewable energy transmission. Due to the existence of a large number of power electronic devices in renewable energy station and VSC-HVDC system, there is a potential risk that various types of oscillation might occur under specific circumstances. Zhangbei project is a ± 500kV VSC-HVDC grid demonstration project in China for renewable energy transmission. A real-time simulation model of Zhangbei project, including large-scale renewable energy stations, VSC-HVDC grid, AC network, is established based on RTDS, the actual renewable energy generator controller and VSC-HVDC controller are connected.
