Abstract
In recent years, considerable attention has been paid to compact wearable antenna for WBAN application. Among the mainstream designs, planar inverted F-antenna (PIFA) with shape of button has attracted extensive interest because of its low profile, low cast and easy to integrate with clothes. However, the narrow bandwidth character of PIFA brings challenges to the design of wearable button PIFA. To solve this problem, a compact button PIFA with parasitic patch and U-shaped slot structure is developed in this paper. Compared to the typical dual-band PIFA, the proposed antenna shows a better bandwidth in both two working frequencies. According to the simulation results, the proposed antenna has 200 MHz low frequency bandwidth (2.3 GHz~2.5 GHz) and 2.5 GHz high frequency bandwidth (5.15 GHz~7.69 GHz), which is much higher than similar researches in the literature. The proposed antenna shows two different types of radiation patterns, a monopole type pattern in the 2.4 GHz band and a broadside type pattern in the 5 GHz band, in order to meet the requirement of multi-scenarios communications. From the simulation results, a satisfying efficiency of about 90% is obtained.
