LINGUO-MEDIAL RECONSTRUCTION OF AN EVENT IN CROSS-CULTURAL ASPECT: HOW MEDIA-TEXTS FROM LE MONDE ARE TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH

Abstract

The article investigates some characteristic features of translation strategy applied by translators from Le Monde for rendering French media-texts into English. It reveals that during translation process pragmatic adaptation is often applied. Mediatext as a whole and its title and lead in particular are subjected to numerous transformations including division of one sentence into several and deliberate omission of some pieces of information. Consequentially, some differences can be observed between the images of the same event depicted in the original text and its translation.
