Abstract

The fault characteristics of wind power converter have an adverse effect on conventional protection. According to the analysis of the fault characteristics, a novel pilot protection based on the similarity of time-frequency matrix is proposed. The detailed model of grid-connected wind farm is built in real time digital simulator (RTDS) with external control devices. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed protection has the characteristics of high speed and high reliability. The proposed method also has good robustness in the case of fault resistance.
