The emulator will be able to emulate systems like Auxiliary Warning System (AWS), Train Control and Management System (TCMS) and Automatic Black Signalling (ABS) System, at a basic level. A physical model of the EMU is developed that comprises of a single unit with tracks and signals along the way. The Mumbai Suburban Railway consists of exclusive inner suburban railway lines augmented by commuter rail on main lines serving outlying suburbs to serve the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Spread over 390 kilometers (240 mi), the suburban railway operates 2,342 train services and carries more than 7.5 million commuters daily. Navigating such a complex system is very crucial and requires skilled motormen.
