Abstract
MUSICAL LITERATURE IN LIBRARIES OF THE UKRAINIAN SSR AS THE OBJECT OF CENSORSHIP (1946-1952) The article deals with the direction o f the Soviet censorship institutes’ work on the ideological control o f musical literature in the Soviet Ukraine during 1946-1952. The purpose o f the proposed article is to show features o f the implementation o f censorship o f music works in the libraries o f the Ukrainian SSR. In his work the author used such methods: a retrospective, source analysis, problem-chronological, descriptive, analytical, theoretical generalization, and others. The study describes the practice o f reviewing ideologically harmful works o f the press, which were subject to withdrawal from the funds o f the public use. The specificity o f the restriction o f musical works in the course o f inspections o f library funds disclosed by the researcher. Special attention is paid to the lists o f authors o f music, music treatments and texts that were declared «enemies o f the people». Preparation o f the proscriptions o f books banned personalities o f the Book chamber o f Ukraine was analyzed by author. As a result o f the analysis o f archival sources the scientist showed mechanism for the prohibition o f printed editions, the process o f transferring publications in closed funds. . The author came to the conclusion that in the late 1940’s-early 1950-ies musical literature was limited, it did not correspond to the Soviet ideology, especially the works o f composers and musicologists, who were called «bourgeois nationalists». As author proves, the limitations o f printed works subsequently had negative impact on the further development o f Ukrainian culture. K e y w o r d s : musical literature, a library, Soviet censorship, ideological control, restriction o f musical publications, checking libraries, closed funds, prohibition o f printed editions, proscriptions.
