Optimum microcell radii for maximum power saving at the MDs sides and for highest network energy efficiency are obtained through analytical studies. It is found that total power saving for microcell MDs is close to 18% with a proper deployment of a microcell. Abstract

Heterogeneous network (HetNet) [1] is considered as an energy efficient system structure to alleviate the problem of rapidly increasing power consumption in the wireless communication system.
