Abstract

Patch antenna strain sensor can measure the structural strain based on the resonant frequency drift. The change in the length of antenna can be calculated through measuring the resonant drift amount, and thus it is possible for us to get the strain applied on the component structure under test. Former researches only verified RFID tag antenna's reliability as effective strain sensor, but there is no research about the detection method of strain sensor. This paper proposed a wireless method to detect the strain based on USRP X300 hardware platform and GNU Radio software. First, the mechanism of RFID patch antenna functioned as strain sensor is illustrated, then USRP X300 and GNU Radio platform is introduced. Finally, the algorithm and simulation of proposed method is analyzed and explained to be effective.
