Abstract
Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) are important equipment to power industry, mainly because of its compactness and robustness. This kind of substation uses SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride) gas as dielectric due to its feature, but on the other hand, SF6 is the most powerful greenhouse gas. Based on the importance of this gas to the power systems and its environmental damages, this research proposes a monitoring system to check gas quality and gas leakages in a GIS. The aim was to develop a low cost system to collect status data and record in a historical database. The latest results expose the development and installation of the acquisition e monitoring system in three bays of a GIS. With the implementation of the system is expected to improve the gas quality management and also improvements on gas leakage detection and location.
