Abstract

The feasibility of using gyroklystrons in linear collider applications is currently under investigation at the University of Maryland.1 We are constructing a four-cavity X-band tube which is predicted to achieve a peak power of 30–50 MW in 1–2 us pulses with an efficiency of 45% and a gain of 63 dB. This goal represents an increase in the state-of-the-art by three orders of magnitude in power2 and is close to predicted collider requirements.
