Abstract
Biomass is a renewable resource that can be used for the production of a variety of products currently produced from fossil fuel resources. The concept of "biorefinery" has been introduced as a means of coproducing electric power and commodity chemicals or fuels. This work describes how thermochemical technologies, including combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis, will play important roles in the development of biorefineries.
