Abstract

Wargames go back to the beginnings of human civilization and continuously accompany its development, shaping the course of history for over three thousand years. Organized and conducted in various forms, they influenced and created interstate and international relations in the diplomatic and military, economic and social dimensions. Countries, wanting to secure their vital interests and striving to preserve or expand their spheres of influence, used and still use wargames in their decision-making processes. Wargames, initially taking the form of simple board games, thanks to research and scientific achievements (including initially the development of print, maps, game theory, computer technology etc.), have today taken the form of professional tools allowing for the optimization of the use of the most often limited resources in the decision-making process, both in the institutional dimension (governmental and non-governmental organizations) and emotional (in social and interpersonal relations). As the course and support of decision-making processes plays an extremely important role in the security sciences, experience and historical analysis show that wargames have been and are also an essential tool for shaping the state's security.
