Multidetector CT of Acute Aortic Syndrome

Abstract

Acute aortic syndrome is charaterised by aortic pain in a patient with a history of hypertension. Causes of this syndrome include aortic dissection, intramural haematoma and penetrating ulcer. The aorta must be fully assessed with an accurate imaging examination when the syndrome is suspected clinically. Multidetector computed tomography is reliable and efficient and is the modality of choice for the evaluation of acute aortic syndrome.
