Abstract
Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), the highest ranked peer-reviewed environmental health journal, develops and publishes a wealth of information directly related to chemical safety and global environmental and occupational health issues. The broader dissemination of this information will aid scientific exchange and policy discussion and development. Our decision to switch to an open-access publishing model is helping to achieve this goal. We also have a major international outreach effort that includes sending complimentary print subscriptions to developing countries, publication of a Chinese-language edition, and translation of the “In This Issue” section of EHP into five languages: Chinese, French, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. In addition to these efforts, the editors believe that the development of regional journals as an outlet for local research should be encouraged. We now partner with the Fogarty International Center, the National Library of Medicine, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to develop medical journal capacity in four African countries and have launched a new partnership with a Chilean journal to include an EHP news section.
