Founded on 28 October 1956, Film Art (a bimonthly journal) is the first academic journal specialising in film criticism and film theory research in New China, sponsored by the China Filmmakers Association. Using its long history, academic seriousness, and theoretical achievements, the journal has long enjoyed a good reputation both at home and abroad. Using the study of Chinese cinema as its foundation, the journal pays close attention to the current development trend of Chinese cinema, comprehensively and professionally describes the creative and theoretical trajectory of contemporary Chinese cinema, timely presents the latest achievements and creative experience of Chinese cinema, studies the historical materials of Chinese cinema in various stages of its history, and digs deep into the thought/culture behind world cinema.
