Since its founding in 1986, Journal of Catastrophology has been an academic journal with a large circulation in the field of disaster science in China and a certain influence at home and abroad. As a comprehensive natural science quarterly, it is publicly issued and covers the research on natural disasters and disasters caused by other non-natural factors. In the early days of its founding, it received attention and support from people including the famous scientist Qian Xuesen and social activist Yu Guangyun. At present, there are 13 academicians serving as consultants and editorial board members to provide guidance for the academic value and development direction of the journal, reflecting the academic status and social value of the journal.
The purpose of the journal is to comprehensively and systematically study all types of disasters, including natural disasters and human disasters, analyze disaster events, summarize experiences, learn lessons, widely exchange academic ideas, research methods and results, report research trends and disaster prevention and mitigation countermeasures, and explore the objective laws of disaster occurrence, aiming to improve the scientific and technological level and ability of human beings to deal with disasters and reduce the losses caused by disasters.
