In January, 1984, as the predecessor of Foreign Language Studies, the Journal of South China Foreign Language Studies was founded, and it has been 40 years since then. Almost growing together with China's foreign language community, Foreign Language Studies has gradually developed from an early discussion of teaching methods and language knowledge into a comprehensive academic platform integrating linguistics, foreign language teaching, translation, foreign literature and regional country studies. The languages covered in the journal are mainly English, with Russian and Japanese as well. Foreign Language Studies is now a double core journal of Peking University Chinese Core and Chinese Social Science Citation (CSSCI) Extended Edition, and has an important position in the foreign language field in China.
