Laboratory Medicine (formerly Shanghai Journal of Medical Laboratory) is a domestic and international open-access journal under the supervision of Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau and sponsored by Shanghai Clinical Laboratory Centre. It has been listed as one of the core journals in Chinese (core journals of clinical medicine) (1996-2008 edition), core journals of China's scientific and technological paper statistics source (China's scientific and technological core journals); China Academic Journals Comprehensive Evaluation Database, China Core Journals (Selection) Database, China Periodicals Full-Text Database, Chemical Abstracts of the U.S.A. (CA), Russia's Abstracts Magazine Retrieval System, Copernicus Index Retrieval System of Poland, CSA-ProQuest Database of Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, U.S.A., Ulrich Journal Guide of U.S.A., and other domestic and international databases; it has been awarded as the Outstanding Journal of East China for three consecutive terms since 2002, and also won the first Outstanding Periodical Award for the Execution of the CAJ-CD Norms, and the Nomination of Outstanding Periodicals of the Shanghai Municipal Association of Science and Technology System, Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Journal Review Excellence Award.
The journal was founded in March 1986 and is now a monthly magazine. The journal insists on using practicality as the main focus, combining theory and practice, popularisation and improvement, and testing and clinic, and reports the latest scientific research results, new progress in practical technology, various testing methods and reagents, and the performance and characteristics of instruments in the field of this specialty. It not only reflects the academic level of Shanghai laboratory medicine, but also provides clinical laboratory personnel at all levels with the basic knowledge, new theories and new technologies they need.
