Lebianism in Sarah Waters’s Tipping The Velvet

Many humans still cannot distinguish what is gender and what is sex. How a person's gender identity can be formed and can be contrary to their sex which is innate since they were born that was created by God for every human being. This article discusses gender identity in Sarah Walters' novel Tipping the Velvet. Researchers analyze how the characters identify their gender. In this novel, it is found that the main character and supporting character who have gender disorders. Where women have attraction not in the opposite sex, but in the same sex (lesbian). By using queer theory, researchers discovered what gender abnormalities were experienced by the characters and how lesbians live their lives as lesbians and how their roles are in the environment where they live.
