In this sense, this article emphasizes on the massive contribution of intellectual property rights (just for patent, trade secret and copyright) in innovation and also criticizes the role of intellectual property in developing concepts such as big data, artificial intelligence and green innovation. In addition, it is extremely significant to demonstrate the differences among the traditional definitions, understandings and historical background of intellectual property and innovation and their current situations in our era. Having said that, it is also necessary to see the present and future challenges faced as to the role of intellectual property rights in the era of innovation where the boundaries are more flexible, the information is more accessible, and the limits can be easily exceeded.
