Medizinische Aufklärung als literarische Strategie am Hof von Mecklenburg-Schwerin

In the political transition from Friedrich the Pious to Friedrich Franz in 1785 there was a renewal and reconfiguration of the medical household of Schwerin and Ludwigslust. This refinement of the medical care at court has been prepared and accompanied by the reinforcement of literary activity of court physicians. The academic commitment of Butzow University teachers was characterized by gaining more discursive competence und focused the formation of midwifes, epidemic control, public health (food hygiene), and personal hygiene and was in a special way enhanced and challenged by the existence of the second residence in Ludwigslust whereby first the discursive competence figured, less the pragmatic question to translate the new medical requirements into specific administration or public institutions.
