The exploration of virulence factors and their functions has been an important research direction of the pathogenic mechanism of Streptococcus suis . Suilysin, a traditional secretory effector, is always regarded as one of the typical virulence markers. Biological properties and virulent effects as well as the newly progress of suilysin factor on the pathogenic roles of bacterial adhesion and invasion, immune evasion and penetrating blood brain barrier are summarized.
