A comparison of contemporary phasor estimation techniques is presented to identify one most suited to analyze fault phenomena. Fault occurrence in power system should be detected quickly. In conjunction with phasor estimation, fault detection techniques have been compared. Main dictum of this paper is to examine effect of phasor estimation techniques on fault detection. These algorithms are implemented and tested using Scilab. Several fault cases have been simulated in MiPower/ETA software.
