A total of 544 houseflies were captured and examined for parasitic loads, using concentration/floating technique for detection of parasites. The highest fly abundance recorded was 302, captured from the farm centre, followed by 219 captured from the hostel; the lowest was 23 captured from the canteen. Parasite species found were all helminthes as represented by Ascaris lumbricoides, Necator americanus and Fasciola hepatica , all in ova form. Ascaris lumbricoides had the highest percentage prevalence of 54.54%, followed by Necator americanus 42.42%, and  Fasciola hepatica 3.03%. A simple chi square test was carried out and the results indicated a significance difference in the prevalence of flies and parasites recovered from the sites. Based on this, it is therefore recommended that health education -on the dangers of being infected, mode of transmission of these parasites and prevention-should be intensified within the university to avert possible disease outbreak. 摘要

调查了乌穆代克迈克尔奥克帕拉农业大学家蝇(家蝇)的寄生负荷,以期找出对大学社区的公共卫生影响。共捕获家蝇544只,采用集中/漂浮法检测寄生负荷。在农场中心捕获的最高苍蝇数量为302只,其次是在旅舍捕获的219只;最少的是从食堂抓来的23人。发现的寄生虫种类均为蠕虫,以类蚓蛔虫、美洲钩虫和肝片吸虫为代表,均为卵状。其中蚓状蛔虫感染率最高,为54.54%,其次为美洲吸虫42.42%,肝片吸虫3.03%。进行了简单的卡方检验,结果表明,从这些地点恢复的蝇类和寄生虫的流行率存在显著差异。因此,建议在大学内加强关于感染的危险、寄生虫的传播方式和预防的健康教育,以避免可能的疾病爆发。关键词:家蝇;寄生负荷;公共卫生
